E U RONEWS TO LAUNCH ARABIC CHANNEL |

The European Union has chosen EuroNews to develop a 24-hour Arabic news channel, a project it announcedlast July. EuroNews Arabic will launch next year, with aims to be carried on “all of Euro News’ network of 35 channels,” according to a press release. EuroNews is a pan-European news channel that started broadcasting in 1993. It airs news in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian. Last year, EuroNews switched from broadcasting to the Arab world via Nilesat to Noorsat. After meeting with members of the European Parliament regarding the financing of Arabic transmissions, EU Communication Commissioner Margot Wallstrom said: “In the climate we have had, this is absolutely the right idea.” |
