Last year was a challenging one for the broadcasting indust try in the Middle East, especially for those based in troubled areas. Growth, however, seemed to be immune and continut ued to rise rapidly. In an attempt to support this growth and accurately evaluate our performance during 2007, MEB conducted a comprehensive survey that involved senior executives, directors, technical and artistic experts, as well as academic professionals, thus acquiring an accurate pulse of our industry. In response to your feedback, the MEB Association will collaborate with major regional and international institutions in order to launch a number of strategic projects – such as our regional HD mobile training facility – aimed to train professionals, facut ulty members, and students. Please read more about this project on page 24. In addition, we will feature a special section for the new MEB Institute, starting on page 39. As for the MEB Journal, independent statistics confirm that our website received a total of around 2 million hits last year. About 50 thousand unique visitors navigated close to half a million of our pages. 25 thousand of our visitors chose our site as a favorite, and the MEB Association added another five hundred member companies to its 4000-plus membership. In reaction to this healthy e-demand, we will redirect many of our resources to furnish our online location with a new and improved, easy to navigate website – in both English and Arabic. If you wish to continue receiving the hardcopy of the Journal, available also in Arabic, please complete and mail the MEB Association membership form provided on page 48 or visit our webst site www.mebassociation.com While many of you value our reporting style, some have requested that we include more educational articles. As we promised, we will fine-tune our MEB Journal to satisfy your needs. This year, we will introduce the term “edu-journalism” in our Journal. All future MEB articles will satisfy educat tional and journalistic dimensions. Furthermore, all future technical articles will be simplified, while maximizing their technical value. Additional support will be established online and will involve different manufacturers to respond to our membership requests and/or questions. I would like to emphasize again that your suggestions and feedback had a profound effect on the direction of our association and journal. We would like thank all those who took the time to participate in our on-going development process. MEB sincerely wishes each and every one a successful year ahead. As usual, you can reach us at
