I am proud to announce the establishment of the MEB Institute, the educational arm of the MEB Association. I am also delighted to welcome Mr. Dale Matthews, who is now our Managing Editor and President of our Institute. Both Mr. Matthews and MEB’s Director of Strategic Solutions, Ms. Rawan Manna, played instru-mental roles in designing a new multifaceted educational-training program titled “Setting Broadcasting Standards.” This program is based on the simple idea of sharing resources and efforts for the betterment of broadcasting. MEB Institute calls on all Middle Eastern universities, media experts, TV stations, and broadcasters to join hands in order to enrich the industry and develop strategies to overcome the obstacles facing us – for no single broadcasting entity can address and solve these challenges alone. I am certain that joining our efforts and working together as a team towards a common vision will enable us as common people to attain uncommon results. Recognizing the importance of media today, it becomes our duty to empower the new generation of broadcasters – our students – and prepare them technically, as well as academically, for the huge responsibilities ahead of them. The challenges inherent in this initiative are discussed in our cover article “Developing Talent.” MEB is dedicating its association, the Journal, and all of its events as a solid platform to support the goals of the new Institute and its programs. To that end, the Institute has initiated collaborations with reputable international and Arab universities and broadcasting institutions. As part of this program, MEB Institute worked hand-in-hand with several university professionals to organize a rigorous training session in the United States for a number of Arab female students. This session in Las Vegas was designed to empower young ladies and train them to cover a live production and broadcast it live on the Internet. The program made headlines in several newspapers in the Gulf. In Lebanon, MEB Institute co-sponsored the First Annual Student Film Festival organized by Notre Dame University. This festival aimed to encourage students and prepare them for their careers. It is a good example of events that need to be replicated all over the Middle East. To maximize the benefits, MEB Institute will seek to locate such worthy programs and distribute them to universities all over the region. If you know of such a program or are involved in one, please do not hesitate to inform me at
