Quantel recently introduced a line of news production systems that work straight out of the box. There are five different packages in the Newsbox line that each feature an increasing amount of capability. All of them take advantage of an editing server based on Quantel’s sQ and Frame Magic technology and allow a news team to ingest material, review and select shots, edit stories, and play them out to air. Quantel pre-configures and tests each component of the Newsbox system to ensure that it is ready to go straight from the box. You can even pack an entire Newsbox system in two 24-inch flight cases, transport them, and have them running again in a matter of minutes.
Every Newsbox is HD-ready, giving the user the peace of mind that comes with the ability to seamlessly upgrade an SD-only system to begin HD production. Newsbox systems start at $199,000. The most affordable option in the range, Newsbox One, features a server with 30 hours of MPEG-2 30MB broadcast and browse storage, ingest and playout automation, a network switch, and one sQ edit and two sQ Cut machines. More powerful systems offer a greater number of editing machines, graphics playout and other options.
