You are halfway round the world but you can watch your local television news beamed live to your phone or laptop. The idea is not some futuristic fantasy if you are the owner of a Slingbox and have the SlingPlayer Mobile software downloaded on your cellphone, PDA or laptop. Install the Slingbox on your TV at home and it will use the internet to stream the television signal to your mobile devices, wherever they may be. You can even put your TiVo into the loop and watch recorded episodes of your favorite TV shows. Produced by US-based Sling Media, the device retails for about $250, while the Sling Player Mobile package, (released in March), goes for about $30. High-speed internet connections are recommended on both ends for optimum performance.
