AOL.com has partnered with Warner Bros to bring thousands of classic television shows to online consumers in the US via its new broadband television service In2TV. The move sees In2TV grab the title of largest collection of free on-demand television shows on the Web. It is also being claimed as the “first true broadband television network,” according to AOL Media Network’s Executive Vice President Kevin Conroy. As well as giving surfers access to a library of television classics, In2TV offers interactive tests, quizzes, games and challenges linked to the theme of television. Viewers of shows will still be subjected to advertising breaks, although these will be kept to a maximum of one to two minutes in each 30-minute episode, compared to the usual eight minutes on broadcast television. Fred McIntyre, vice president of AOL Video, told MEB Journal that he sees In2TV, which was launched in March, as a starting point. “Now that we've built this platform, we intend to expand the service with new channels and new shows, as well as content from other producers and studios,” he said. Plans are also in the works to add the option of downloading-to-own certain programs both within the In2TV network and with other video on AOL later this year, he added.
