Deutsche Telekom to bring IPTV to Germany

Print E-mail
by
Microsoft has signed its biggest IPTV agreement in Europe and second largest worldwide to date with Deutsche Telekom. Deutsche Telekom will use the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform to offer television services to consumers across Germany over its VDSL broadband networks. The platform will allow customers to receive regular programs as well as advanced services including standard and high-definition programs, interactive TV, digital video recording and video on demand. An additional feature will enable viewers to access packages of content.  The VDSL network, which is currently being extended by T-Com, is expected to launch in mid-2006 starting in 10 major German cities including Berlin, Munich, Cologne and Hamburg. Deutsche Telekom is Europe’s largest communications provider with revenues totalling 59.6 billion euros in 2005. It joins 12 other broadband suppliers in using Microsoft’s IPTV Edition Software, including names such as BT, Verizon, Swisscom and T-Online France. More deals may be announced in the future as other companies are still in the software testing phase.
