Popular music video broadcaster Melody has diversified its offering with the launch of a new Arabic cinema channel. Aired on Nilesat, Melody Film was launched in mid January and broadcast from Jordan. Shereen El Hadidi, a spokeswoman for Egypt-based Melody Entertainment, which owns both the Melody Arabia and Melody Hits music channels, said “a lot of time, effort and money” went into Melody Film, without providing further financial details. “I think we need more (music channels) but better established and well organized channels with strong content,” she added. Melody rival Rotana TV, which has four music video channels, already broadcasts two film channels. Music video channel Mazika has also voiced interest in launching a cinema channel.
